With its marble palaces, temples, beautifully laid out gardens, lush mountains and a lakeside setting, it’s no wonder Udaipur is considered the most romantic city in north-west India. This little town with relaxing atmosphere lies on the banks of Lake Pichola in the foothills of Aravalli range in southern Rajasthan.
Among many of it’s highlights is the Lake Palace which appears to be floating on water. The palace was built in the mid 18th century. Today, the palace is a luxury hotel and has been the backdrop for several movies including the James Bond’s “Octopussy”.
Udaipur is also the centre for performing arts, craft and its famed miniature paintings. You can even take an art class and paint your own souvenir. A stroll through the old town’s narrow streets and along the clothes-washing ghats makes for an amazing experience.
