Pushkar – India
Pushkar was one of my favorite places I visited in Rajasthan. It’s a charming little town with a very relaxing atmosphere. Separated from Ajmer by the winding “Snake Mountain”, this pilgrimage town clusters around the sacred Pushkar lake, where pilgrims come to bathe in the ghats and wash away their sins.
There are hundreds of milky-colored temples and weather-touched domes in the town as well as the surrounding area. The one-hour trek up to the hilltop Savitri Temple overlooking the lake is worth the climb for fantastic views (and it’s not as steeps as it seems). If you need to chill after the hike, Pushkar has plenty of atmospheric restaurants and rooftop cafes, which are a fun place to relax and monkey-watch. Yes, there are monkeys everywhere! They will keep you entertained for hours.
The lake is also a great place to get the taste of the local daily life. People gather to watch the sunset, sip a cup of spicy chai and groove to the many beats of the drum circle.
